Optimized Workwear Drying for MA 48 of the City of Vienna

03/25/25

Efficient drying of work clothing is a critical issue, particularly in demanding fields like street cleaning and waste disposal. MA 48, the Municipal Department 48 of the City of Vienna, faced this challenge head-on and found an effective solution with WINTERSTEIGER Dry & Protect’s state-of-the-art drying systems. Not only did the solution improve efficiency, but it also enhanced employee well-being.

MA 48 is responsible for street cleaning, winter services, and waste disposal in Vienna, as well as managing the city's vehicle fleet. While the department had drying rooms for work clothing, these rooms lacked optimal conditions. Clothes were typically hung on metal racks, which hindered proper air circulation, resulting in long drying times and persistent unpleasant odors.

The Search for a Better Solution

The quest for a more effective drying system began when MA 48 acquired its first WINTERSTEIGER Dry & Protect drying cabinet for testing. In 2023, the project "Drying Cabinets for Team Accommodations" gained momentum, and it became evident that a more efficient solution was necessary. After positive results from the testing phase, WINTERSTEIGER Dry & Protect quickly became the brand of choice.

WINTERSTEIGER stood out due to its unmatched drying efficiency, combined with the innovative Sterex disinfection technology, which ensures hygienic drying. The robust, industrial-grade design of the units met the demanding requirements of MA 48, making them the perfect fit for the municipal department.

Markus Glück, advisor for strategic container logistics at the city of Vienna, commented, “With WINTERSTEIGER’s drying systems, we can dry work clothing in record time, and the unpleasant odors are significantly reduced. This not only makes our employees’ work environment more pleasant but also boosts overall efficiency.”

Successful Implementation and Ongoing Collaboration

To date, several drying units from the Primus and Tantum series have been successfully installed across various MA 48 branches, including those for waste disposal and street cleaning. The collaboration between WINTERSTEIGER Dry & Protect and the City of Vienna has proven to be highly successful, and MA 48 is already planning additional installations in more branches.

Employee feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Mario Konrad, an employee at MA 48, shared his experience: “As someone who uses the drying systems daily, I can confidently say that the devices deliver on their promises. Clothes dry quickly, odors are greatly reduced, and we no longer deal with damp clothing. It’s a huge relief!”
