Humidity replaced by a breath of fresh air as Vattenfall supports commuters on their bikes

Swedish-state owned electricity supplier Vattenfall – now one of Europe’s five largest electricity providers – has consistently embraced renewable energy sources in recent years. The company’s main markets are Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, and the United Kingdom. The Group employs 21,000 people and now supplies over 5 million customers across the continent.

When designing the new German headquarters in Berlin, which opened in 2022, the team worked together with the architect to plan a dedicated area for employees who cycle to the office. Alongside having a place to park their bikes safely, the employees also wanted to be able to get changed, dry any clothes that got wet on the way to work, and neutralize any odors that could arise due to dampness. “A number of our employees were heavily involved in establishing and setting up the bike room. They looked into WINTERSTEIGER and found that the Austrian company’s range includes the perfect drying lockers to satisfy our high demands,” explains Andreas Dierkes, architect, construction and equipment project manager, and sustainability point of contact for Vattenfall offices around the world. 

“Back then, we opted for two WINTERSTEIGER condensation drying lockers including the ‘Econ Set 8 Premium Sterex’ unit and we’ve found that they have performed really well for us ever since. That’s why we have now ordered another condensation unit for our new building for 1,200 employees in the Elbbrückenquartier in Hamburg’s Hafencity. We’re very satisfied with the quality and efficiency of the dryers, both in terms of the drying process and the Sterex odor reduction. In my opinion, the number of cyclists will continue to increase at both subsidiaries, because it makes ecological and economic sense to cycle in big cities like Berlin and Hamburg. We will expand our bike rooms as and when required, and provide sufficient capacity for drying and odor-neutralizing clothing,” concludes Dierkes.
